P Party!

Here are some pictures from the mega-awesome P Party that you should've gone to!

These were the only "incoming young adults" that showed up...Stuart is too young even! It's cool, your presence was accepted and appreciated.

The few that came in costume. Not pictured: Emily as Pooh bear, Ben as Paul Bunyan, Daniel as Prototypical Studmuffin, Andy as Photographer, Derek as Programmer (Please...), and Wayne as Paramedic (Extreme Please...)

Group shot! Hope you can make it next year!

A Call To Arms

Friends,

Young Adult Ministries requests your participation in helping with two food booths at the FCBC Family Fair this Saturday, May 30th. Currently, we've only got a couple people signed up, which is jawesome, but we need a lot more. As much as Daniel Spickard (who has the body of a greek god) would love to cut that chicken all day like it owes him money, he will need to take breaks to marvel at himself in a mirror. Please, we need your help. He tends to marvel often.

Your Response Is Appreciated

Crossroadies,

How many of you would be interested in purchasing a shirt, if hypothetically, we made one? Cost would run the around ~$15. It'll most likely have elephant print incorporated cuz I'm hypebeast like that. Feel free to comment on this post, or email the gmail.

A Recap: Crossroads 1st Annual S.A.D. Dinner and a Movie

Saturday, Feb. 14th 2009

2:45 pm
Me: "Hey Paul, are you at church yet?"
Paul: "No, I was just about to leave the house."
Me: "Ok, cool, me too, I'm just waiting on Larissa."

3:15 pm
Me: "Hey Paul, when you get to church can you preheat the oven for 325 and then stick the prime rib in? I'm going to be a little late."
Paul: "Ok"

3:30 pm
I arrive at the Praise Center to find it's all locked up. Good thing Auntie Kitty has all the keys in the world. Also, Paul arrives 5 minutes after I do. hahhaha.

3:40 pm
Oven is first turned on to preheat

4:00 pm
Prime rib goes into the oven. It's supposed to take 3 hours to bake + 15 minutes outside to cook on it's own + the time it takes to carve a prime rib. The night is supposed to start at 6:30 pm. You do the math.

4:15 pm
Time to set up A/V for the movie. Visual is up and running easily enough. Audio is another problem. "There's no obvious ON button for this thing!" Good thing Nick Tong is available to swing by and set it up. Prime rib: On it's way, Visual: Done, Audio: Almost there

4:45 pm
Chairs and tables are set up, but we need decorations. This is due to the lack of a real female presence on the party planning committee and the fact that we're only really expecting other Crossroads leaders and friends who wouldn't care whether or not they ate on a frilly, heartshaped placemat. But whatever...to CVS! I need to get drinks anyway.

5:15 pm
CVS is a lifesaver. Valentine's themed placemats? Check. Heart Garlands? Check. Wall-E Children's Valentine Cards? Check. Manzanita Sol? Oh heck yes.

5:20 pm
Me: "Hey Eugene, we have all the necessary utensils right? Forks, knives, plates, cups?"
Eugene: "uhhh, yes."
Me: "K thnx bai."

5:40 pm
"Hi, can I get a Mocha Joe, and an order of value fries?" M'Lady wants caffeine and I want starch.

6:15 pm
A/V is up and running thanks to Nick...Tables are set with decorations...Paul's photo backdrop is almost done...Prime rib is on it's way. Things seem to be in order. Time to change out of my civilian clothes and into formal wear.

6:30 pm
The first guests start to roll in. I pull the Prime Rib out to set. Total bake time...2 hours 30 minutes. Should be ok right? Estimated time behind...15 minutes

6:45 pm
I start to cut the meat. With a dull knife. And without a meat fork. Oh heck. It's looking pretty raw in the middle. We're going to have to nuke it in the microwave...except the microwave isn't plugged in. Ok, we'll broil it. Estimated time behind...30 minutes. "Hey Jeremy, there's 30 people outside. There aren't enough tables." Whaaaaat, how come nobody ever RSVP's! Gotta set up more tables, and now portion all the food to feed everybody. Estimated time behind...45 minutes.

7:00 pm
Plates: Check Forks: Check Knives: Che...Eugene you lied to me! Now comes a mad dash to the other side to find knives and to get more drinks from the Crossroads Cabinet. Estimated time behind...45 minutes and counting.

7:15 pm
Drinks have been found, but knives are no where to be found. "Auntie Kitty, do you have any plastic knives?" I honestly don't know where she got them, but she managed to find just enough plastic knives for our group. Auntie Kitty = Clutch.

7:30 pm
Food is properly portioned and finally set out for everybody with the proper utensils. The movie will start at 8 pm, the pies are being cut for dessert, and the photobooth is set up. Everything should be smooth from here. Actual time behind: 1 hour

What did I learn? I'm not set out for the catering business, but everyone in the kitchen was. I've made a list of everything we needed so that next time it runs smoothly. This post also acts as a reminder of what I was missing. Whatever number I get for people that RSVP. Double it. I was about to make everybody that didn't RSVP go to McDonald's and take advantage of the "2 Big Macs for $3.50" deal. Good thing Unk Chris was there to remind me that it's always better to have more people show up than nobody show up. The night could have ended disastrously had it not been for all the last minute help. Thank you all. And thanks for everybody that made it out, RSVP or not. I hope you had a good time, enjoyed the food, the movie, and the fellowship. Our next meeting is Feb. 28th. Be there, no RSVP needed :)

Crossroads does Valentine's Day!

So, if you haven't seen from the calendar of events on the right column of this blog, Crossroads will be hosting an event for Valentine's Day. I originally wanted to throw a prom-like dance, but corporate wouldn't allow it, so we've tweaked it to be a dinner and movie! The S.A.D. is for Single Awareness Day as this event is not limited to couples. It's actually aimed at all you single young adults that roam the corridors of FCBC.
A prime rib dinner prepared by culinary genius Frank Tran will be served promptly at 6:30 pm by the Praise Center (formerly known as the Old Sanctuary) and be followed by a movie indoors. Along with the film, we'll have a photo area for you to take pictures. We'll also have supplies available for you to make your own Valentine's Day "mailbox" a la 2nd Grade as well as those elementary school Valentines for you to fill out and put into other people's mailboxes. Dress code is semi-formal, but you can be as dapper as you feel like.
An official flyer will be up soon, and tickets ($5 each) will go on sale this Sunday, Feb. 1st in limited supply. So mark your calendars, invite a friend, and come to the Crossroads S.A.D. Movie and Dinner!

India 2k9 anyone?

From Pastor Chris:

This Sunday, Feb 1, there will be a Sunday Sunday School assembly where we will have Al Wilson, our designated team leader from E3Partners for our upcoming missions trip to India come to present information regarding the trip. I hope you will come with an open mind and open heart to seek God's leading as to whether or not this might be a good opportunity for you to take a step of faith and seek to build God's kingdom in a concrete way. This is a unique opportunity that will put you in the front lines of sharing the gospel with those who may have never heard the story of Jesus before. There will also be an opportunity to have lunch with Al and ask more questions after Worship@11. If you would like to participate in the lunch, please email Pastor Chris (cbmsn1@earthlink.net) and/or Donald Yuan (donuwon@gmail.com). Even if you do not go on the trip, this will be a chance to hear how missions work can be done and how you can pray for/support those who will be going!

I don't know that I'll be able to make it to this trip since I've decided to go down the ever so bumpy road of graduate school, but all (three) of you reading this should definitely check out the meeting. I think a lot of us have a very skewed view of India and it might be good to go to this info session, or even the lunch and talk to Al to break any misconceptions you might have.

~Jeremy

Crossroads 2k9

Captain Spickard, Eugene, and Greg need to write in this more. All the posts are by moi. You guys also need to email us at fcbccrossroads@gmail.com. I don't have that email pushed to my phone for nothing! In any case, Crossroads is meeting this Saturday, Jan. 10, in the Hall of Truth upstairs. I stress being on time because if you're not, there's a large chance all the lights will be off in the building with us all dispersed hiding from you.
I've also been given the opportunity (forced) to share with you all about my life and it's intricacies. I can't tell you yet what I'm going to divulge since I haven't thought deeply about it yet, but it's going to be good. Hopefully I destro and conquer this cold by then.
I look forward to seeing all your familiar faces, and hopefully some unfamiliar faces, on Saturday. As always, bring a friend. I bereave that we've molded and contoured Crossroads to be pretty inviting. I'll see you there!
